Mission Statement:
Our mission is to provide the citizens of Thornton with fast, effective and professional fire, rescue and medical services through the use of trained personnel and quality equipment. We continually strive to prevent the loss of life, personal injury and property damage through public education and emergency responsiveness. We will render our services with pride and personal commitment to the individuals in need of aid.
Mayor Swan is pleased to announce the Villages of Thornton, Lynwood, and East
Hazel Crest, have contracted with Emergency Communications Network, Inc., of
Ormond Beach, Florida, for its “CodeRED” high-speed telephone emergency
notification services. The CodeRED system gives Village officials the ability to
deliver pre-recorded emergency telephone messages to targeted areas at a rate of
up to 60,000 calls per hour
The Police and Fire Chiefs caution that such systems are only as good as the
telephone database supporting them; “If your phone number is not in the
database, you will not be called”. The CodeRED system not only offers faster
calling rates and improved message delivery, it gives individuals and businesses
the ability to add their own phone numbers directly to the system’s telephone
database. To ensure that no one is omitted, we urge all individuals and
businesses to log onto www.thornton60476.com and follow the links to the
“CodeRED” page. Those without Internet access may register at the Village Hall.
No one should automatically assume his or her phone number is included. CodeRED
gives those who want to be included an easy and secure method for doing so. The
information will only be used for emergency notification purposes. If you have
further questions, you may contact Chief Kolosh at 708-877-4440.

The Jr Fire Academy once again proved to be very successful. The children in
attendance learned a lot about the fire service.
Thank you to all residents and businesses for your support of the Thornton Fest
2005.
